the Hunt family!

Okay, so I admit to my bias...but this is one beautiful family!  My daughter, Ashley, my son-in-law, Byron, and of course, well-known to my blog, my sweet grand-daughter, Harper Jean!  We headed out the door in the evening and the light was beautiful, so...pictures!!!  Harper just turned 6 months old...and time will continue to fly by as we enjoy her little personality developing...she's starting to babble, a lot, she loves to smile and giggle and cuddle...ahhh, she's just so cute!
I am headed on vacation soon and it is beginning to occur to me that I am gonna miss her sweet little face!  Next year, I might have to take her with me!

Ashley...and Harper!

Okay, I know, I am pretty biased...but, seriously...isn't she lovely?!  Just over 5 weeks to go!

We are so excited to welcome her little baby girl into the world!

If there was ever...

...a more lovely pregnant woman, I cannot imagine it.

This is my beautiful daughter, Ashley...and my soon-to-be granddaughter!  I love them both so much it brings tears to my eyes.

Arms wide open.

I love him.  Okay, well why wouldn't I, right?!   He's very sweet, smart, funny, silly, curious, energetic, happy...oh, and just look at those baby blue eyes!

But the thing is, he's already taken...  He's got a girl in his life who loves him even more than I possibly could.  And in this picture he is telling me (showing me) how much he loves her.

"This much" he said, as he looked up at her.  Yep, that's a lot of love, Max.

Well, he should love her that much...she is a pretty incredible lady...and Max, well, he calls her mommy.

A walk in the park.

One of the nicest compliments I can get upon finishing up a photo shoot is this one..."Oh, we're done?!  Okay, that was easy!  It felt like we just went on a walk together!"
Taking a walk in the park is exactly what I got to do a little while ago, with these two...some of my very favorite two people!  And our little walk together resulted in some of my very favorite images.
Of course, how can I go wrong...look at that sweet face!

Alas!

Alas!  I have finally managed to update both of our websites, Mike & Kris Ryan Photo and Heart & Soul Images, with a gallery of images from our trip to visit Burmese refugees.  Any and all of the images are available as prints, traditional or canvas (they look especially nice on canvas), as well as press-printed greeting cards.  All proceeds from any print sales will go directly to Partners to help them continue their amazing work with the Burmese people.  Please let me know if you'd like to purchase, or donate!
We are headed up to Fairbanks, Alaska this week, to attend their annual fundraiser for Partners, where Oddny will be speaking!  It will be good to see her again, this time absent the frizzy hair and mosquito netting!  And, we are excited to get to see Allison & Stephen (our daughter and son-in-law) too, along with much of the Wall family!
Then, I will actually be home for a bit, catching up with clients, trying to beat the winter weather that is surely going to find us soon!  Looking forward to a BSU tailgater with the Ryan clan next month, a grand-baby ultrasound (yay!), another trip to the beach, and getting ready for the holidays?!  Life is good and I am more and more grateful every day.

Sweetie.

Those of you who know me know that I raised girls...two beautiful, sweet girls.  So, I don't have first hand knowledge of raising boys.  I know it's different.  More physical.  And probably dirtier.  :)

I see this little guy a few times a year (call me for information on a "watching them grow" package) and I can tell you, he is a real sweetheart!  He is getting more and more independent and talking up a storm...it's so fun to see!  And wow, what a charmer with those big brown eyes!

Thanks Tor & Tiden for a fun evening!

Fun little guy!

Enjoyed a warm evening with this little guy and his beautiful mom...  Typical little boy, I suppose; he was eagerly distracted by cows in the field, and playing in puddles, and the opportunity to jump off a platform into mom's arms, again and again...giggling his contagious laugh the whole time.  He also had a contemplative side, as this picture suggests...what a sweetheart!

More pictures to come, this is just a teaser...!

Wow.

Okay, sure, I am a little bit biased, because she is my niece, but...wow!  She's gorgeous!  Oh...and she is really sweet, and funny and smart and athletic and...well, yep, she is the total package!  I had a great time doing some senior shots for her!  Love her, and love her family!

Storms.

I had a restless night last night, listening to the winds howl and the rain collide against the bedroom windows. I keep checking the calendar, to see if it really is almost June...and yet there is snow in the forecast? Yikes!

And then I began thinking about the days and nights we spent with the Karen people. We were fortunate to be there in very mild weather. No rain. No winds. It was warm and mostly sunny, and our only concern was overheating a little bit on our short walks through the jungle. Even the nights were lovely. Cool, but calm and relatively quiet.

That isn't how it always is there for the people trying to live their lives there. They, too, have to deal with nights like last night, where the winds are whipping and the rains are beating down...only they do it in their modest huts, on their dirt hillsides... And I am certain they do it with the same admirable grace and humility that they manage in their everyday lives.

We brought a few little gifts along on our trip, mostly for the children; books and crayons, dolls and small toys…and we spent most of a day sitting with these two young girls, sisters, in their family's home. They sat quietly with us, all day, drawing pictures, getting their nails painted, and playing with a few little toys, all the while listening to all the talk around them about the enemy that threatens their very existence. How do those girls sleep at night? I stayed up last night, worried that my new planter wasn't going to survive the storm…and then worrying that these beautiful young girls won't survive the storm that surrounds them…

I am going to update our website soon, I promise…and I am going to include a gallery of images from our trip with Partners. All proceeds from any print orders in that gallery will go toward their goal of "free, full lives for the children of Burma."

iPhone obsession!

My daughter says I am kind of obsessed with my new iPhone...(maybe that has something to do with all the photos of her cat I've been sending her!)  I say, "well, yea, I am!"  I love it!  One of the things I love most about it is all the amazing photography apps...many of them FREE!  In a world where we sometimes obsessively concern ourselves with the "reality" of digital photography, me included, it is really fun to be able to let go a little and play with these ingenious, creative tools.
I took this photo with my iPhone using an app called Hipstamatic, which I love.  It features different "films", including that old school grainy look, and different lenses and flash capabilities too.  And then, after my dog walk, sitting on my stoop, I tweaked it a little more with a free app called Instagram, which adds to that vintage feel.
It's fun to play and to be creative, whatever your tools!  (...I am feeling the need for a fresh box of crayons...wanna color, Allison?!)

Love these kids!

Did a recent family photo session with this amazing group of energetic people!  They are funny and sweet and smart and kind...and beautiful...and, oh, they are MINE!
We consider ourselves very fortunate to call these wonderful young women our daughters...and so blessed that they have chosen to love these wonderful young men, who cherish them in return!

Contentedness.

This is Jackson.  He is patiently waiting for our guests to arrive, quietly counting the days until there will be turkey giblets to eat, calmly awaiting the tree decorating and the holiday bows that he loves to take off of presents (curling ribbon is like a drug to him).  I should be more like him, calm and demure...BUT...I AM JUST SO EXCITED!!!  Family pictures this weekend (clients and my own!), the treasured & traditional tree hunt (hide and seek in the tree lots!) and then tree trimming, a special birthday treat, cookie day, stocking stuffing, game nights...did I already say that I am so excited?!  Abundantly grateful, contentment abounds.

Living in the moment...but day dreaming of Costa Rica!

I do subscribe to the philosophy that we should appreciate the here and now, live each moment as fully as we can, be present in our lives...all of that gibberish...but as I was recently editing images for our annual calendar I came across a few Costa Rica shots...and couldn't help myself but to recall those long, warm days where the sunshine was plentiful and the sounds of ocean breezes filled our open air cabanas.  I'm just saying...

I love him!

I love it when kids contemplate.  I love it when anyone takes the time to be reflective, but there is something so pure and sweet and innocent about a child in thought, even for just a moment.  Okay, so maybe he wasn't deep in thought...he may have been thinking about whether he wanted to climb on the nearby log, or chase the cow...or maybe he was thinking about the balloon we just let float away, on accident...which may have led his mind to the impermanence and fragility of life...and how delicately we have to hold on to what we love...  Okay, but likely, he was thinking about the cow!  And maybe how much he loves his mommy!

Tetons in Fall!

There is no better time to visit the Grand Teton National Park, than Fall...well, unless it be Summer, when the temperatures are warm and the days are long, that's nice too...or Winter, when the mountains are white and the animals are visible...or Spring, when the wildflowers are in bloom...  But I digress...  Fall is really spectacular!
